The Death of a Baloch Tiger

The Death of a Baloch Tiger: Nawab Khair Bakhsh Marri

Written by Aaron Peterson

The news rang out on June 11th… “Nawab Khair Bakhsh Marri has passed on.” A revolutionary leader that for over 50 years had been committed to the rights of the Baloch people. Unafraid of potential repression resulting from his work, Khair became an exemplary prolific revolutionary leader. Who lacked the concern for wealth or power.  Instead remaining attentive towards the cause of social change and revolution for the Baloch people.

Nawab Khair lived as a tiger of Balochistan. Roaring loudly against those who opposed Baloch independence and defending the national rights of the Baloch people. Never did the nationalist leader compromise or bend to the forces which would have chained either the cause of Balochistan or himself down. Even in the bleakest of times, Khair remained defiant daring to speak out against the rising tide of oppression.

With Khair’s passing, the Baloch people have lost a treasure. They have lost one of the loudest voices daring to speak in their interests. A man who stood firm in his support of resistance against the forces of Pakistani imperialism and political Islamism as he remained a leading force in the Baloch Liberation Army for resistance against the state for nearly five decades.

“The later you rise up against injustice, the more sacrifices you have got to make.”

               – Nawab Khair Marri
