Escalation in Eastern Ukraine

Escalation in Eastern Ukraine

Written by Aaron Peterson  | 6/3/2014

In Eastern Ukraine, the attacks by the government in Kiev and the Ukrainian army are escalating. The Ukrainian Army has stepped up it’s attacks against ‘rebel’ positions by engaging in the large scale bombings of towns such as Sloviansk and Donetsk.  Bombings which are leaving large sections of the civilian population dead with each attack and airstrike.

The epicenter of blame for the escalation in the crisis in Eastern Ukraine solely lies with the new government of the ‘Euromaiden’ movement. Who have solidified their political positions in stone even though rising to power from low turnouts in the election and with 10% of the Ukrainian population being unable to vote. To further the blame the Ukrainian leadership in Kiev faces, it has used militants of Right Sector and has even gone so far as to incorporate Right Sector into the Ukrainian National Guard. Representing on behalf of the Ukrainian government, the acceptance of terror towards ethnic minorities in Eastern Ukraine and using far-right militancy as a plausible deniability tool in order to increase casualties in Eastern Ukraine.

Continuing and expanding the bombing with the Kiev government has kept with it’s tiresome comments of everything disagreeing with it being ‘Russian’. Accusing the population by proxy of betraying the Ukrainian nation, an inherent tool of dehumanization due to voting popularly towards separatism. By expanding the violence and pushing for more tactics of totality against the population, the ability to solve the situation in Ukraine as an all Ukraine issue becomes more foreign by the day. The division becomes stronger and the people of Eastern Ukraine are being pushed against a treaty between East and West, new elections and ultimately — a new government. Instead, it would appear that the notions of ethnic absolutes pushed by the Kiev government  and maintaining control are more important than negotiating to stop the mass killing of the Eastern Ukrainian people by their own hands.
